David started writing songs and playing guitar as a child, which sparked his interest in songwriting and eventually led him to Nashville in 2013. The move that made him a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Music was the beginning of his career as an award-winning songwriter.

Before his move, in 2009, David won a Grammy for best country songwriting for his song "Crazy in Love." For the next four years Evans attended Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, where he graduated in music. During his final semester at college, he was selected to attend the Contemporary Music Center in Brentwood, TN, where they focused on songwriting and performance. He played in Ireland and Scotland, where his fellow writer and artist Megan Barker invited him to a wedding.
